I’ve not led a lily white life, and I’m a bit mistrustful of those who have. I’ve suffered depression, and climbed my way out more than once. I’ve spiraled through the allure and withdrawal of drugs. I’ve been beaten by a man who said he loved me. And though I’d happily trade some of my past for a more pristine memory, I’d really not change a thing (not true, I’d change losing custody of my children to a wife-beater).
I am who I am because I was who I was. Hello. My name is Melanie. It’s nice to meet you.
I am a writer, and I believe in the power of words. I believe in writing out the horror and putting it to paper to exorcise it from my mind. I believe in Black Box Warnings as an excellent place to put our stories of “mental and physical health, parenting, daily tribulations, and life’s little moments”. I believe in this community and the power of the collective group for the encouragement it offers to each and every one of us who has braved the anxiety of contributing a guest post.
I am no stranger to the struggles of creating a post for someone else’s blog. My first guest post was right here on BBW. I wrote a story of a part of my marriage that I had not yet put together for my own blog.
It was tough to write it. It was difficult to send it to Le Clown. It was hard to look at that first comment that came in. But it remains one of the most empowering writing experiences to date. I did it. I purged that story. I received comments of heartfelt and true support. I love every one of you for that.
And I am proud to partner with Le Clown to further build this place as safe and supportive collaborative blog.
I am no stranger to the efforts of seeking writers to spotlight. I do it for my blog, Deliberate Donkey. Though DD is still a freshman in the world of collaborations, the success has been empowering, for myself and those who have posted a piece of their story. It is because of this effort that Le Clown offered me equal partnership in Black Box Warnings.
We will work together to find writers, to schedule posts, and to support the objective. We will work together to promote the posts. You are as likely to hear from me as you are from him.
I have often read stories and thought to myself, now here’s someone with something to offer the BBW community. Now I will be approaching those writers and telling them how their words have affected me, and have the honor and privilege of offering a spot on this blog. Now I will also be available to writers who know they have something to offer the community of BBW.
Please, continue to read these stories. Continue to offer kindness, encouragement, and support. Let us (oh how excited I am to say us) know if you have something to share.
